We Came, We Ran, WE SPARK!
So, this past Sunday- a few of us die hards got up early, donned our Quality Problems Tee shirts and hit Balboa Park for We Spark’s Annual 10K Run/5K Run-walk. Was GREAT to get there a bit early and see SO many familiar, friendly faces and I was struck by how MANY folks came out to support such a great place. If you don’t know We Spark is a local non-profit that provides COUNTLESS support services to those undergoing Cancer treatment, newly diagnosed, in remission… and all their families and loved ones.
Basically- the place you go when you feel lost and afraid.
I know many of the women who work, volunteer and support this place and – if they are the should that greet you when you enter… consider yourself already well cared for.
So, we ran with them, for them and… the wrong way.
Let me explain- see, when our leg started (The 5K because no one was REALLY up to chug 6mi. and stay joyful) we ran under a bridge, took a left and ran happily along. Thing is- we were not supposed to go left. There was a mix up with the park and the course wasn’t marked yet so we, and everyone before & after us- just cruised this loop… The WRONG loop. So, when we came back around and crossed the finish – I immediately thought… “That was WAY too easy… And WAY too fast.” Well, checking my 8000 tracking devices, I discovered we only ran about 2.2 miles-
BUT DAMN IF IT WASN’;’T THE FASTEST “5K” WE’VE EVER DONE!
We actually didn’t give a crap. It was all for a GREAT place, a worthy cause and we burned some calories doing so. In the end- I was only sad that I didn’t get longer with our team- I MISS EVERYONE SO INCREDIBLY SINCE WE WRAPPED- that I vowed that we have to hang out soon because my “production withdrawals” have been intense.
In the end- an EXCELLENT DAY to run Cancer’s ass into the ground.
